Caring for your wool covers

Hand wash in a sink full of warm water (not too hot, it will shrink your wool) with 1 tablespoon of your favorite wool wash (amounts vary by brand, read your wool wash directions carefully). Gently massage water/soap solution through the cover. Empty the soapy water then refill with fresh warm water and gently massage /rinse the cover. Gently squeeze out the water without twisting (wringing) the cover and roll it up in towel. Apply some pressure to squeeze the excess water out and then lay flat to dry or hang to dry.

Did you know? Wool covers don’t need to be washed after each use, you can just air them out.

Lanolizing your wool covers

Combine 1 teaspoon wool wash, 1 teaspoon pure lanolin and 1 cup of hot water in a small container (with a lid works best). Shake or stir until the lanolin is completely dissolved and the solution is “creamy” looking. Turn your cover inside out. In a sink with the drain closed, pour the solution over the wet zone area of the cover. Add about 8 cups of warm tepid water and soak your cover for 15-30 minutes. DO NOT RINSE! Gently press out the water without twisting, roll up in a towel and apply pressure, then lay flat to dry.

Quick Tips:

• You can add a little extra lanolin to the wet zone for extra protection. This is referred to as “dry lanolizing”. Put a small amount (dime sized or less) of pure lanolin in your palm and rub your hands together to emulsify, and then gently massage the lanolin into the wet zone. Your cover may feel slightly sticky in this area but will disappear after 1 use.

• Allow your wool covers to air out after each diaper change

• Soiled wool covers can be spot washed with your favorite bar soap (ex: ivory bar soap, sudz and dudz wool bar soap, Dr. Bronners Castile Soap, etc.), then lay flat or hang to dry.
